The heart chamber orchestra is an audiovisual performance made out of the heartbeats of the performers. All musicians are equipped with ECG (electrocardiogram) sensors which records their heartbeats. A computer analyses the heartbeats and creates notes which are displayed on monitors in front of the musicians. Everything is done in real-time – there is no pre-written score, but everything is created from the musicians heartbeats.
The result is a composition in which the score is evolving throughout the performance and is unique each time. It is a very interesting approach to making music and yield some very nice ambient results. The visuals seen behind the musicians are created in the same way as the score.
